Naan bread

Naan bread is an Indian flat bread. It can be made in a tandori oven but can just be made in a skillet if you don’t have a tandori oven.

The dough is similar to pizza dough as it’s a simple yeast dough. It can be made softier by adding yogurt and egg.

Ingredients

  • 2 t instant yeast
  • 1 t sugar
  • 1/2 c water
  • 2 to 2.5 cups flour
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/3 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 large egg

Steps

  • combine yeast, sugar, water in a small bowl, let sit for 5m until frothy
  • whisk in olive oil, yogurt and egg
  • mix 1 cup flour with the salt
  • combine flour with wet mixture
  • add 1/2 cup flour at a time until comes together
  • knead for 3m keep adding flour if sticky

Naan bread dough

  • cover dough for about 1-2h until size doubles
  • flatten dough into disc and cut into 8 pieces
  • roll out each piece until about 6 inch diameter and 1/4 inch thick
  • heat a heavy bottom skillet (cast iron)
  • cook until bottom is golden brown
