Naan bread is an Indian flat bread. It can be made in a tandori oven but can just be made in a skillet if you don’t have a tandori oven.
The dough is similar to pizza dough as it’s a simple yeast dough. It can be made softier by adding yogurt and egg.
Ingredients
- 2 t instant yeast
- 1 t sugar
- 1/2 c water
- 2 to 2.5 cups flour
- 1/2 t salt
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/3 cup plain yogurt
- 1 large egg
Steps
- combine yeast, sugar, water in a small bowl, let sit for 5m until frothy
- whisk in olive oil, yogurt and egg
- mix 1 cup flour with the salt
- combine flour with wet mixture
- add 1/2 cup flour at a time until comes together
- knead for 3m keep adding flour if sticky
- cover dough for about 1-2h until size doubles
- flatten dough into disc and cut into 8 pieces
- roll out each piece until about 6 inch diameter and 1/4 inch thick
- heat a heavy bottom skillet (cast iron)
- cook until bottom is golden brown
